Résumé: "Farewell, My Concubine" is a movie with two parallel, intertwined stories. It is the story of two performers in the Peking Opera, stage brothers, and the woman who comes between them. At the same time, it attempts to do no less than squeeze the entire political history of China in the twentieth century into a three-hour time-frame.
Commentaire: "Farewell My Concubine" is a very good film. The story is interesting and upsetting. The acting is exceptional (Li Gong is fantastic) and everything from cinematography to the script is brilliant. It's a bit too long, if you ask me, but the film is, nevertheless, interesting until the end.

This is only the second Chinese film I have seen, but it is almost as good as the absolute masterpiece "Raise the Red Lantern" (Li Gong is in that film as well). Recommended. (7/10)
