Commentaire: When this one shows up in a Film Festival and kicks off with workers demonstrating outside a closed plant, you fear you've been stuck with something worthy. However what we get is unexpected and agreeable.

Susumu Terajima, Beat Takashi's regular side kick, wanders unspeaking through a succession of chance encounters that put him in jail, make him a hero, put him in hospital, make him rich and poor again and end with him racing through all these events again before a belated burst of normalcy.

That must be the celebrated Seijun Suzuki as the old man giving this one added curiosity value.

Cast and production values are good but it's the detached tone that makes this remarkable - better than the same team's MONDAY.
